The Munsteiners – Jutta, Tom, and Bernd – are two generations of exceptional gem and jewelry artists. Bernd Munsteiner, a world-renowned artist and visionary, was born into a family of traditional gem cutters in Germany. Rather than merely entering the family business, he revolutionized it. Approaching gems with a sculptor’s sensibility, Bernd saw them not only as gems but as unique three-dimensional transparent media with optical properties that could be carved with an eye to form, light, and expression.

Bernd Munsteiner’s trailblazing efforts opened the door to gem sculpting, a creative field now carried on by his son Tom. Tom pioneered remarkable works in natural minerals, influenced by contemporary architecture, sculpture, and his comprehensive understanding of the crystal properties of gems. Jutta Munsteiner, Tom’s wife and partner, is a master goldsmith and award-winning designer. In the Munsteiner studio, the artists work independently and collaboratively, creating a formidable collection of truly one-of-a-kind jewels.

Sadly, Tom Munsteiner passed away in December 2023, and Bernd Munsteiner passed in June 2024. They will be remembered for their significant influence on the jewelry industry and the many people they inspired and helped along the way.  Jutta Munsteiner, along with their grandson Phillip, will continue with their incredible jewelry design and stonecutting techniques, ensuring the Munsteiner legacy lives on.
